by Rob Osler
I’ll confess that I was at first uncertain about joining SinC for the fact that I am a “sister” only in spirit. But then, that’s why I did join. Because I was/am supportive of the organization’s mission. Having gotten to know the programming as I have, I’ve been increasingly impressed by the commitment to helping each writer grow at whatever stage of their publishing journey. Recently, I served on the DEIJB committee, where I was able to offer my industry experience in marketing research to the Business of Books Survey, which provides organization leadership with broad, timely information and insights about the publishing industry from SinC members. The effort to ensure inclusivity and sensitivity in the survey itself may not be apparent to every member completing it, but trust me, it’s there. The process was sincerely collaborative and respectful, and the results will benefit the organization’s leadership to better respond to members’ needs and aspirations and strategically steer SinC into a vibrant future. It’s a terrific group of sisters, and I’m proud to be a member.
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice, and Belonging Committee Member, 2024-2026.
