In a recent Instagram Live with SinC ED Julie Hennrikus, past president and acclaimed author Sherry Harris defined what showing up means for writers building community:

1. Go to events and conferences.
2. Volunteer. If you’re going to a conference alone, volunteer to help. People want blog posts? Volunteer.
3. Say Yes. Even when it scares you.
4. Consider joining a board. Next time your local chapter does a call for board members, say yes. Board service is work, but it is work that makes a difference.
5. Supporting others. Sherry created the Pride award for emerging LGBTQIA+ authors as her immediate past president project. When given the opportunity, lift up other people.
