Sisters in Crime has become my bedrock organization. The place of possibility I return to when I need inspiration, career guidance, a good time, or an energy boost. As so many can confirm, you get the most out of SinC when you give the most. I am particularly lucky to have joined in the founding season of SinC’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice, and Belonging committee. This committee supports SinC’s core mission of advocacy for underrepresented crime writers. Our work recognizes that neurodiversity, ethnic diversity, varied physical and economic abilities, are strengths we can build upon. Among our signal achievements on the DEIJB committee is the multifaceted course called “Better Your World, Better Your Writing.” The modules in this self-directed course were created for writers at all stages of their writing journey. Capsule lessons included Building a Complex Setting, Doing Research That Adds Truth, and Self-Care for the Writer. I’m proud to have worked with so many dedicated volunteers to bring the possibilities of SinC to such vivid life.
