Scrivener is great when you want to mess around within scenes. But what about when you need a visual timeline for your novel?

Here are a few of the points Kim touches on:

  • Excel can be a great tool to use alongside Scrivener for visually organizing your story.
  • You can use Excel to list events that happened before your story begins and to plot your novel scene-by-scene.
  • As you write, check off completed scenes on a printout of the spreadsheet so you know exactly where you are in your story.
  • Use the spreadsheet to track what your protagonist knows and what the other characters know.
